Our Story

The Lancaster County Agricultural Society (LCAS) has been a cornerstone of the Lancaster County community since its establishment in 1870.

As a nonprofit organization created under Nebraska law, LCAS is dedicated to promoting and supporting agriculture, youth development, and community engagement through the organization of the annual Lancaster County Fair and the management of the county fairgrounds.

Growing the County Fair

In 2001, recognizing the need for a dedicated venue to accommodate the growing Lancaster County Fair and other community events, LCAS opened the Lancaster Event Center. This facility quickly became a hub for agricultural showcases, youth programs, and a variety of events that celebrate the county’s rich heritage.

Over the years, the event center expanded its offerings, hosting over 500 event days annually and attracting more than 564,000 visitor days each year. These events range from local community gatherings to regional, national, and international shows, contributing significantly to the local economy with an impact of up to $72 million per year.

In December 2023, marking a significant milestone in its history, the Lancaster Event Center was rebranded as the Sandhills Global Event Center. This change, initiated through a 15-year naming rights agreement with Sandhills Global, reflects a commitment to modernizing the facility and enhancing its role as a premier event venue. Concurrently, a $10 million infrastructure modernization project was launched, funded by a State of Nebraska Shovel Ready Grant, aimed at improving visitor experiences and preparing for future events, including the return of the National High School Finals Rodeo in 2026 and 2027.

Throughout its history, LCAS has remained steadfast in its mission to provide a welcoming and enjoyable experience that showcases the agricultural essence of Lancaster County and Nebraska. By fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of agriculture, supporting youth programs like 4-H and FFA, and hosting a diverse array of events, LCAS continues to enrich the cultural and economic fabric of the community.
